A series of three mini-workshops for new and experienced doulas in New Mexico led by Pam England
In your initial doula training you were introduced to techniques that support and nurture the parents. After you began to work as a doula, you probably realized YOU needed a little support and nurturing. In this series of mini-workshops you will learn how to support and nurture yourself and your doula-peers. I
DOULA FROM WITHINTM The first doula training teaches basic, hands-on skills of being a doula. After most novice doulas begin working, doing prenatal interviews and attending births, they realize a need to know new, more advanced, skills. Without these skills, many doulas get more frustrated, burnt-out, and some even quit. Doula From Within I, a four-hour workshop, is packed with inspiration and new information. You will learn: - Building a pain-coping mindset before and during labor
- The importance of the masculine-feminine polarity and energies in labor
- Doula in a cesarean birth culture
- Case study consultation: ask questions and receive constructive, holistic feedback on your doula experiences.

II DOULA FROM WITHIN
Being a doula is hard work. Swinging between the highs you feel when parents choose you or after witnessing a nice birth-and the lows when you feel powerless after yet another birth when you think you did not make a difference. Long hours in labor, and longer hours afterwards trying to figure out the whys and what happened is exhausting. We are what we eat, and we are our stories. For both parents and doulas, birth stories are especially charged with emotion and meaning. An unprocessed birth story may be buried, but it's not forgotten. Doulas continue to live and project their birth stories in their work. This is evident in what a doula favors, fears, judges, trusts and avoids. Unprocessed birth stories: are seeds of burn-out; limit your range of "choices," ad eliminated personal freedom. This mini-workshop offers a crucial process to help doulas mature and avoid burn-out. You will explore and experience: - The difference between Choice and Personal Freedom
- Doula roots: what motivated you to become a doula
- Doula PTSD and PTBS (post-traumatic stress and post traumatic-birth story)
- Birth story process for doulas
- Case study consultation: present questions or experiences as a doula; receive holistic and constructive feedback
