Solution-focused dialogue (SFD) is a collaborative way to discuss challenges and help people move toward their desired results. Rather than focusing on problems, deficits, or past failures, it emphasizes building solutions and practical steps toward desired outcomes. It's commonly used in coaching, therapy, leadership, education, and conflict resolution.

You will find an in-depth map for conducting solution-focused dialogue (SFD) in Module Four. However, many of the teaching videos that you will be viewing before then include solution-focused dialogue. This document contains a brief sketch of the ideas behind SFD, SFD techniques, and examples of SFD in action. The purpose is to familiarize you with the principles at work so that you can identify and understand them, and begin to think about how you might employ them in your mentoring.
