Member Call: Listening for Solutions

In today’s information-heavy world, birth preparation often centers on facts, research, and planning — what Birthing From Within calls Modern Knowing. But as many of us have witnessed, facts alone cannot carry someone through the mystery, intensity, and transformation of birth.

In this call, we’ll explore the Three Ways of Knowing, how these ways of knowing show up in our own birth work, how they interact in our clients' decision-making, and how we can support a more balanced, whole-person approach to preparation, birth, and postpartum.

Member Call: Working with Parents who have Birthed Before

As parents prepare to welcome another baby into their family, their needs shift. They tend to be less interested in the nuts and bolts of birth, and more interested in exploring how to get through the ordeal of birth as an initiation, having walked that road before.

On this call, we’ll explore topics and processes to support experienced parents.

Being a Birth Detective

There’s so much emphasis on cervical dilation when assessing labor—but what else is unfolding beneath the surface? This call invites us to go beyond the cervix and become true “birth detectives.” Together, we'll explore the subtle signs, shifts, and sensations that tell us where someone may be in their labor journey. From emotional states and breathing patterns to vocal tones, movement, intuition, and the laboring person’s own words—we’ll dig into the deeper wisdom of the body.

Solution-Focused Pushing: supporting parents in the second stage.

Solution-Focused Pushing: supporting parents in the second stage.

“How will I know when to push?”

“What does pushing feel like?”

“What is the best position for pushing?”

These are just a few of the questions parents ask themselves (and us!) about the second stage of labor. Knowing that none of these questions have just one simple answer, how do we prepare parents in a meaningful way for second stage?

This call, with Maeve Sundstrom, will cover some practical considerations and explore ways to support the inner journey of second stage.
